Tips to get a goodnight sleep!

Insomnia is not uncommon among us. I have episodes of being sleep deprived myself. But what is insomnia?
Insomia is defined as a chronic inability to sleep or to remain asleep throughout the night. Now if a person had difficulty sleeping for months it is recommended to use non pharmacological ways such as the following:

1. Comfort - Yes, you need to be as comfortable as possible when your in bed. A good mattress and comfty clothes would be a lot of help.Temperature could also be a good factor,it should'nt be too hot or too cold.

2. Get Ready - Ever noticed that sleep won't easily come when you immediately go to bed and close your eyes? Well it's because getting into the mood to go to sleep should take a bit of preparation. Read a book, yup... take a nice shower be ready to get some good night sleep.

3. Follow the clock - it might be hard but it does help when you follow a schedule for your body to follow. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time too.

4. Bed Limits - Don't use your bed in so many activities. Let your body know that the bed is for sleep and not for eating, watching tv and the likes. Your body can get confused at bed time and won't automatically relax whenever you see your bed.

5. Exercise - About 20-30 minutes of exercise a day can help you sleep better.

6. Drink decaf at night - It's a no no to take caffeinated drink at night when its time to get to bed. if indeed you have sleeping problems then eliminate them in the diet altogether.

7.No Alcohol - Yes, no alcohol, aside from avoiding a beer belly and a fat liver , alcohol is avoided near bedtime since it interferes with your normal sleep pattern.

8. Drink milk - grandma is right those cups of milk can get you through that sleep deprivation. Studies shows that compounds called casa-morphins are in milk and that these compounds soothes the nervous system.

9. Melatonin - this controls your sleep cycle and you produce less of this as you age. For those who have bodies that produce less melatonin they may take supplements that aid as a sleeping pill. However it is not yet tested for long time use. Plus it is better for you to contact your physician regarding this matter.

10. Use Amazing amino acid - L-Tryptophan is, the amino acid found in meat and cheddar cheeses and other food products, that tell your body to produce more melatonin which helps you sleep better.

11.Herbal Remedies - Yah it may be quite old type of solution but it works. It safer and natural. Chamomile, valerian, St John's wort ( be careful , check with your physician especially if you are on medication, may have drug to drug interactions) that can be made into teas to help you doze off. Or you can put lavender oil on a steaming bath water.

The net keeps me closer to home.

A radio broadcaster was shot dead by an unknown gunman in the southern Philippines, police have said.

Jonathan Petalvero, the 43-year-old host of a news commentary programme on DXFM station in Bayugan town, was attacked by a gunman riding a motorcycle along a road here late Saturday, Bayugan police officer Johnny Orlanez said.

The motive for the attack was unclear, although residents said the victim had planned to run for public office in the municipal council in the May 2010 general elections.

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists earlier this year said the Philippines was among several countries where media workers were murdered with impunity. ----directly copied from MSN (windows live messenger news,Regional

Emergent Article

This one over here is one of my articles submitted to a Clinical Instructor as we talk about Emergent cases in the ER .

Emergence: my life’s turning point

WARNING: the following article may contain some scenes or language too disturbing to the reader, parenteral guidance is advised.

Flashback…March of 1994, Kindergarten moving-up ceremony, it was my turn to accept my ribbon and say my short speech, 1..2..3… mama, papa when I grow up I want to be a businessmen like you someday so I would earn lots of money!

Errr..Probably that wasn’t the exact piece but more or less. Anyway, thirteen years back, who would believe that the most athletic awardee would become a student nurse? I climbed the ladder of education believing that I was equipped with enough merchandise to talk, to communicate to interact. I was never really shy, I ask questions whenever I feel confused. But as you grow and learn from experience one must come to terms with refinement.

I entered the portals of Cebu Normal University college of nursing with a certain degree of confidence, confidence in myself that I will do my best to reach the finish line of the said path. But, like most of us, there was no enthusiasm there. I was empty as an eggshell. In the next few lines I would really want to say, “ But Alas! Look at me now, I am now reformed and that nursing is not only my art but my new found identity. Actually, the last few minutes while writing I have already killed two dozens of insects hovering over me. Is that how a nurse should act?Seriously...

If I am not fit for this profession then what am I suppose to be? I am Bepven, a third year student of section III-B. A nineteen year old lass from Baguyan city, Agusan del sur. Every time I go on duty my heart skips a beat. I worry for sometime, then when I am finally there ( thankful that I wasn’t late)I use the skills I have humbly acquired with constant exposure. I talk to my patients calmly knowing ,that even to me the hospital can be a very scary place. People come to you rarely with a smile, but when they do, your heart swells. When the patient is in pain, you yourself nibble on the things you can do. Significant others come to you and ask questions you may or may not know the answer, but somehow you can not seem to have the heart to leave them unanswered. While making your soapie, you may figure they have a 39.5 degree Celsius temperature and you end up doing a tepid sponge bath half of the time, but that’s ok, as long as the temperature goes down. You do D and C more than twice in your student life wishing it was always a minor case (Dusting and cleaning a.k.a Dilatation and Curettage) instead of cleaning while laughing at the same time. And who wouldn’t love seeing babies being born all over the place. You smile along with your patients; you can even shed a tear for them especially when money matters are concerned. You learn more about life. Aseptic technique strictly followed, though you get reprimanded, concern for the patient is indirectly manifested. To some extent you even disregard your own safety when handling blood and secretions. You get to play with kids. You handle different sorts of people, you even cater to violent individuals like drunk men for example. Or you may assist suturing or cutting bodies with a serious look on your face without realizing your caught under tape (just kidding). And yes, you will have to face death. Some of my colleagues have shared their own stories regarding feeling responsible with a patient’s expiration. Probably that is something I haven’t tried, but I’ve got a long way to go, the challenge to be vigilant is always there.

Aint it funny how you could transform without even noticing it? Maybe somehow I under estimated the power of learning and the power of the human mind. I guess writing along my thoughts I’ve realized how attached I’ve become. The turning point of my life didn’t take a single moment, or a single decision, I needed to be tricked by my subconscious to admit what I was slowly turning into, a lass who wants to be a nurse.

Sorry dad, mama, I won’t be a businesswoman after all! Maybe as a sideline, herbalife anyone?(jajaja)

Sudden Zest of Inspiration

I suddenly had this gushing and smiling heart that is why you my fingertips are tapping the keyboard heavily as i go, like every tap and click would scare the inspiration away. It's like, I now remembered how it was to write after a long slumber of non productivity. A blog sort of reminded me of how candid and fun writing could be. Like right now i have this urge to tell you about my unlucky incident when i was riding the jeepney on the way home today.

I was about to get off when suddenly the rain poured like on cue...Whooooooosh lolz, really sad part was he didn't hear me when i said "para". He went as far as 15 meters or so away from where i'm suppose to be dropped off. An again another sad part, i aint got no umbrella and i still had to walk a few blocks from that point. Grrr... But you know what i was thinking the entire time?

"That itwas the perfect Oh Crap Moment for a blog post "
So here it is now =)

FARM tOWN 2

We just lost bobong. he was my father's brother but he was about my age even younger. We lost him due to Leukemia. Probably one of the reason i am not crying is because it didn't come so suddenly. We knew it was coming. But the sad part was he was still so young and he had so much energy. Six months ago he was so alive, full of life, full of hope. And now he is gone.

He always wanted to become a nurse. He was up a for a brand new start. I guess it wasn't ment to be. All the memories and all life experiences... all ends here. For most of us, we live by the day or some may think there is always gonna be tomorrow. For bobong it was all about more time to live. He once posted " The biggest thing i could give, is my time" . Too generous for someone who lacks such.

Goodbye bong.
We love you
May you Rest in Peace
Thank you for the Lesson

Doll
FARM TOWN... I find it hard to be a farmer. But it's cute. You get to make your own character and it teaches you patience. I'm actually bad at it so why am i even endorsing it? Well for one, it has this simple concept of how business goes and yah it does teaches you how to spend and even invest. I'm writing this because i just lost my investment on my grapes. I thought i'd earn more by picking the seeds that grows faster than the others (the grapes) about 4 hours. But it ends up that i lost coz i wasn't able to transfer them on my storageroom and harvest them on time.

Oh well it's father's day by the way. Guess that's how fathers feel when their child goes rotten. hehehe. All bankrupt.
